Saniflo: Macerating pumps key for cutting toilet water consumption
Toilet expert Saniflo has suggested that the nation's bathrooms are an ideal starting point for eco-conscious homeowners keen to cut down on water consumption.
According to the manufacturer, the macerating plumbing technology used in its modern low-consumption toilet systems goes some way towards curbing the amount of water which "goes down the drain".
"All Saniflo toilets are low-consumption," confirmed a spokesperson for the firm.
"Most use 1.6 gallons per flush; two models use only 1.1 gallons per flush. Installing a Saniflo bathroom not only solves a costly plumbing problem, it makes it easy to cut your water usage," the representative added.
Plumbing experts estimate that household toilets account for around a third of indoor household water use, amounting to more than 2.1 trillion gallons of water every year.
With a toilet like those manufactured by Saniflo, macerating pumps use a fast-rotating blade to liquefy waste and toilet paper in flush water before releasing it through piping to a sewer or septic tank.
The firm's selection of smaller macerator pumps, including the Saniflo, Sanipro and Saniplus units, are chosen by many plumbing professionals for use in downstairs toilet facilities, en-suite shower rooms and bathrooms.
