Profile Company Profile

Sentinel, the leading UK water treatment specialist, is based in impressive offices in Runcorn, Cheshire. The company was formed in 1988 and since that date has developed and grown significantly in terms of product portfolio, number of employees and turnover.

Sentinel provides an extensive range of products for the effective cleaning, protection and noise reduction of domestic heating systems. Its tried and trusted water treatment products include cleansers, inhibitors and noise reducers - under its popular brands all installers will recognise - X100, X200, X300, X400 and X500, Ferroquest and Leak Sealer. Sentinel also manufacture the CombiGuard unit to combat limescale and Jetflush 4 for flushing out domestic heating systems. New to the market is Aquadosa for cleaning water systems, which effectively defeats legionella bacteria.

The company is committed to sustainability at every level and is currently mounting a concerted campaign that will see it leading the way in the chemical water treatment sector in the years ahead. This is built squarely on its energy efficiency credentials. In 2005, it was the first chemical water treatment company to define the energy efficiency benefits that can be attributed to chemical water treatment in a domestic heating system. Independent research carried out for Sentinel, showed that the use of Sentinel water treatment products can add 2-3% to measurable efficiency levels. This added further factual evidence to the knowledge base that already had confirmed that Sentinel’s products improve system efficiency, reduce gas and oil consumption and carbon dioxide production, and prolong the life of residential heating systems and their components, in particular boilers, radiators and pumps.

Words from the CEO

STANDING ALONE – GROWING SUCCESFULLY

As you will know, Sentinel was acquired last year by The Riverside Company, the largest private equity firm in North America and Europe. Sentinel had been a successful and profitable business under GE’s ownership but the domestic nature of Sentinel’s product portfolio was not a strategic fit within GE’s primary focus on the industrial and water scarcity markets. As a result, the company moved across to new owners and this move will enable us to take Sentinel forward. The key personnel remain the same but the team is growing in numbers and expertise as the new owners invest in the business and its resources.

Chief Executive Officer Gary Roebuck is still very bullish about the marketplace and is confident the new look Sentinel is on the up: “What has happened in recent months has allowed  Sentinel  to build a great platform for further growth and to build on the relationships we have across the sector.

“The marketplace for chemical water treatment products continues to grow. There are huge opportunities out there for us and we’re ready and well placed to respond to them. The increases in fuel prices we’re seeing across the board sees the industry crying out for ever more energy efficient options to reduce the costs of fuel use in the home and our message that using Sentinel water treatment products can make your domestic heating and hot water system as efficient as its possible to be, is beginning to hit home. The research we undertook that proved a clean system, cleaned and inhibited with Sentinel products, can add 2-3% efficiency to even the highest efficiency boiler has added weight to the argument for using Sentinel products every time.

“We are building our product portfolio – with new products being introduced throughout the year. The most recent introduction to the range is Sentinel Aquadosa, a new product that allows our customers to address the problem of legionella in water systems, quickly and safely, without all the drawbacks of established treatments that involve the use of chlorine.

“The broader product portfolio is being welcomed by both distributors and customers.  We’re totally focused on meeting the needs of our customers and to providing only the best quality and range of products for the market we serve.”
